Sydney Davidson
(Cordwainers Company)
11 September 1927 - 13 August 2016
Sidney (Sid) was born in a family pub in Québec County Durham and kept the tradition going by enjoying a pint ever since.
Most people would recognise Sid from spending the best part of his working life at Greenwell’s shop in Silver Street, where he worked his way up from starting as a school leaver in the warehouse to eventually becoming a director.
Sid was a keen footballer and cricketer, playing locally for Québec and Tow Law and at one point got the chance to play for Everton.
He was also a keen walker and rambler.
Sid was admitted to the Cordwainers Company of the Durham City Freemen in May 1992 and regularly attended Guild Days. He was extremely proud of his association with the Freemen and the City of Durham.
Sid is survived by Vera whom he married in 1958 and sons Ian and Peter.
