Heritage Open Days – Town Hall Tours 7 – 10 September 2017
I am pleased to report that the Town Hall tours were a great success with over 700 visitors attending over the four days.
The Freemen’s contribution based on the ‘History of the Freemen and Guild Hall’, included a 10 minute talk for each of the 8 time-tabled tours together with craft tables, highlighting the skills of lead workers, joiners, glass gilders and signwriters, together with a stand displaying artefacts recovered from the bed of the River Wear that forms part of the research and work of the recently established Freemens History Group.
A wide range of display materials that included Pop-ups, brochures and booklets, created an attractive and interesting environment within the Guild Hall.
I would like to thank those who supported our presentation of the ‘Guild Hall and History of the Durham City Freemen’ over the four days. These including, a number of Wardens and Freemen, a Trustee and especially the number of non-Freemen from our History Group.
Eric Bulmer
Chairman of the Wardens
